This part analyzes and investigates in detail the financial performance of two UK FMCG firms (listed) – Unilever Plc and British American Tobacco PLC (BAT). These are two top FMCG firms in the UK. The financial performance data and performance measures have been taken from Thomson Eikon Reuters Database. Also, with the help of databases like the Euro monitor, we can analyze the performance of both companies and compare them with the industry median values. Also, arguments from recent researches to measure the performance are taken to critically analyze the performance.
 
In this report, first, we provide the rationale of the choice of the companies and thereafter perform ratio analysis. After this, a summary of the analysis including the industry comparison is done to take a view on the overall performance of companies.

Unilever Plc – Unilever Plc is one of the top FMCG companies in the UK. The company primarily supplies food items, home and personal care products. The product portfolio of the company ranges from ice cream beauty cream.  Four segments – Foods, Home Care, Personal Care, and Refreshment are identifiable. The Foods segment covers soups, sauces, snacks etc. In the Homecare segment care products like powders, soap bars, detergents and a range of cleaning products are included. The Personal Care segment covers hair care and skin care products, oral care and deodorants.  Ice cream and beverages come under the purview of the Refreshment segment.
